INTRODUCTION: "HOW'D HE DO THAT?"
Understanding memory, symbol and pattern, can only help with understanding the literature you're reading. Not being able to comprehend what you're reading can hurt the actual meaning of the story, and it can lose the enjoyment of the literature. Understanding the recognition of patterns makes it easier to read complicated literature because it helps you make connections with real life actions, or even other pieces of writing that you have read. A time where my appreciation of a literary work was enhanced by understanding symbol was when I was reading The Great Gatsby. One of most important symbols in that book is the green light across the lake from the Gatsby mansion, this might meant hope for Gatsby that one day he'll get the chance to get Daisy back.
